Music for Kids

The Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) provides high-quality music education for young students, K-8, for the city of Alameda’s socio-economic and culturally diverse community.

Open to All

BAMP’s mission is to provide an opportunity for all children—regardless of circumstances—to thrive socially and academically, through music education that promotes creative expression, teamwork, discipline, and social responsibility.

Full Support

At BAMP, no child or family is ever turned away because of financial limitations. Through BAMP and the generous support of donors, students receive high-quality music instruction— including instruments, accessories, sheet music, nutritious snacks and academic support during the school year.

Meet the Mom Who Started It All

Lorrie Murray

Lorrie’s background includes an overlapping 15 years as a graphic designer/art director and 25 years of experience as a concert promoter, tour manager, and stage performer in the music industry. During her time immersed in the Bay Area music scene, she discovered the true power of music and art to unite and uplift a community.

Lorrie was keen to introduce her children to the creative and aspirational aspects of music through their school. It was at that point she realized equitable access to music education was severely lacking. After learning about Venezuela’s successful El Sistema program, she was inspired. In 2013, she founded Bay Area Music Project to enrich the lives of children and their families through accessible, empowering music education.
